Proposal in Russia to Raise Retirement Age to 70-75 Years

Proposal in Russia to Raise Retirement Age to 70-75 Years

In Russia, the issue of raising the retirement age is being discussed once again. A proposal has been made in the State Duma to set new thresholds at 70 and 75 years. The initiator of the proposal, Deputy Bessarab, stated that this approach would ‘double future payments.’

However, critics emphasize that the proposal contradicts Russia's demographic reality. Statistics show that in 2023, the average life expectancy in the country was 73.41 years, with men typically not reaching the proposed age of 75.

This has sparked public discontent and concerns that the new initiative would effectively limit pension access to a small number of citizens. Discussions in the State Duma are ongoing, but the proposal has already generated a significant response from both experts and ordinary citizens.
