Construction of the Zangezur Corridor Nearing Completion: Aliyev
The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, stated during the 7th consultative meeting of Central Asian leaders in Tashkent that agreements reached in Washington this August regarding the connection of Azerbaijan's mainland with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic would contribute to expanding international transit capabilities.
According to him, the construction of the Zangezur Corridor within Azerbaijan is already nearing completion. The president mentioned that the railway, with a capacity of 15 million tons, is planned to be a crucial part of the Middle Corridor in its initial phase.
Aliyev noted that today, Azerbaijan and Central Asia serve as a linking bridge, connecting the East and West, North and South. He emphasized that the development of the Middle Corridor holds strategic significance for the countries in the region, while the modernization of transport and logistics infrastructures, the synchronization and digitization of customs procedures create broad opportunities for increasing cargo transportation, strengthening economic stability, and expanding cooperation in international markets.
He also added that in the last three years, cargo transportation through Azerbaijan via the Middle Corridor has increased by 90 percent.
