Zangezur Corridor Creates Unique Opportunities for Regional Countries: Expert
The Zangezur Corridor creates new transit opportunities not only for Uzbekistan but also for Central Asia and the South Caucasus. This was stated by Nargiz Umarova, head of the Strategic Communications Center at the Institute of Perspective International Studies of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy of Uzbekistan, as reported by APA.
According to Umarova, Uzbekistan's strategic aim is to expand trade routes, accelerate access to promising markets including the European Union, and reduce freight transportation time. The opening of the Zangezur Corridor could reduce the distance to Europe by over 300 kilometers, which translates to reduced costs and transportation times in the logistics sector.
Umarova noted that the corridor will boost the cargo transportation capacity of the Middle Corridor, alleviate congestion on current routes, including the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, and at the ports of the Caspian and Black Seas. She stated that the redistribution of cargo will increase the revenues of regional countries and decrease the pressure on infrastructure, while work continues on expanding transit routes in Central Asian countries.
