Phone Scammers' Favorite Scheme Revealed
Phone scammers are increasingly calling a single subscriber from various numbers, allegedly from state organizations and companies, mobile operators have reported to RIA Novosti. At the beginning of the year, such calls accounted for 10% of all fraudulent calls, but now that figure has doubled to 20%.
The rapid rise of complex fraudulent schemes involving two or more alternative calls to a single subscriber has been identified as a key issue in the sphere of phone fraud by 2025. According to data from the 'Defender' service, if at the beginning of the year such calls accounted for 10% of all fraudulent calls, by October, their share has increased to 20%,” company representatives stated.
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs had revealed that organizers of fraudulent schemes compel perpetrators to create fake profiles on dating platforms. These accounts are used to lure victims into traps or to steal their banking information.
Moreover, it was previously reported that scammers are increasingly posing as accountants or tax officials to deceive individuals. They may possess a duplicate SIM card of a real employee and use it for communication.
