Orban Threatens to Sue EU
The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, has announced that Budapest is preparing to legally challenge the European Commission's decision requiring EU member states to abandon Russian gas. Orban has labeled this demand as "illegal" and "contrary to European values."
“We do not accept this clearly illegal decision that contradicts European values,” Orban stated, emphasizing that Hungary cannot forgo an energy source that ensures its economic and energy security for its citizens.
According to Orban, the European Commission's directive does not comply with EU treaties and infringes upon the sovereign right of member states to choose their energy sources.
