Court to Be Approached Regarding Samvel Karapetyan's Detention
The newspaper 'Zhoghovurd' reports that on November 18, the term of business magnate Samvel Karapetyan's detention will expire. ArmLur.am learned yesterday that the investigative body has issued an internal instruction to submit a request to the court for extending the detention measure seven days before the established deadline. This means that the investigative body is currently preparing to approach the court regarding the extension of Samvel Karapetyan's detention.
Samvel Karapetyan's case is being examined under Judge Karen Amiryan of the Court of Appeal of Anti-Corruption, who specializes in corruption-related crimes. Before assuming this position, Amiryan served in 2019 at the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia in the Department for Organizational Oversight and Legal Support, first as a Senior Prosecutor and then, starting from April 2021, as Deputy Head of the Department.
According to the annual declaration for 2024, the judge possesses two real estate properties, including one apartment acquired in 2019 and one parking space acquired in the same year in the Arabkir administrative district. The year 2019 proved to be fruitful for the former Senior Prosecutor as he also purchased a Nissan vehicle. The balances in the judge's bank accounts totaled 308,000 AMD, while his cash assets amounted to 8.5 million AMD.
During the reporting year, Karen Amiryan received a total income of 23,978,000 AMD from 13 sources. He earned salaries from five sources, including 13,958,000 AMD from the Judicial Department, 18,750 AMD from the Slavonic University, 87,114 AMD from the Academy of Justice, 1,596,000 AMD from Yerevan State University, and 43,725 AMD from Eurasia International University, alongside an income of 48,750 AMD from civil law contracts with the same university. He also received 38,500,000 AMD from the Ministry of Education and Science's Committee for Higher Science and Education. In addition, he earned 710,329 AMD from the Bar Association and about 1.4 million AMD from the Ministry of Finance. From the Academy of Justice and other civil law contracts, Karen Amiryan received 300,000 AMD.
Among his financial means, 5,790,000 AMD consists of loans from Evocabank and Converse Bank. As of December 31 of the reporting year, the remaining balance of loans and borrowings totaled 51,657,000 AMD. It is revealed from this account that the judge owns two apartments. Specifically, a mortgage loan of 4,268,000 AMD was granted under the program 'Providing Affordable Housing to Civil Servants' for acquiring an apartment and a parking space, while the mortgage principal for an apartment in a building under construction amounts to 40,906,000 AMD.
