Russia Builds Relations with New Syrian Authorities

Russia is developing its relations with the new authorities in Syria, irrespective of their interactions with the United States. This was stated by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian President.

“We are building our relations with the new leadership of Syria. You know that recently Mr. al-Shara had quite a meaningful and successful visit to Moscow, where he had extensive negotiations with President Vladimir Putin,” he noted.

Earlier, al-Shara stated that Syria has entered a new era, which will be based on a strategy for developing relations with the United States. On November 10, discussions took place at the White House between U.S. President Donald Trump and the Syrian leader.

Washington has eased sanctions against Syria and export control measures, allowing the supply of American civilian goods, as well as software and technology to the country without the need for a license.
