Scandal Involving Germany's President Will Be Resolved: Ukraine's Foreign Minister
Ukraine respects the institution of the Federal President of Germany and is not interested in deteriorating relations with Germany; however, it expects a "new policy" from Berlin regarding Kyiv. This was stated today by Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba at a press conference held in Kyiv, as reported by korrespondent.net.
Kuleba commented on reports that President Volodymyr Zelensky refused to meet German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Kyiv due to his pro-Russian policies. “Ukraine has great respect for Germany; we do not always agree with German policies, but we respect Germany as a country, as a partner, and it is absolutely clear that the head of state, the President of the Federal Republic, is one of the symbols of the Federal Republic of Germany, and we treat the institution of the German federal president with the same respect,” Kuleba said.
He emphasized that Ukraine is not interested in worsening bilateral relations with Germany. “I am therefore confident that this situation will be resolved through diplomatic means and that no harm will come to Ukrainian-German relations,” he added.
It is worth recalling that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky refused to host German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Kyiv due to his close ties with Russian leadership. Instead, Chancellor Olaf Scholz has been invited to Kyiv. The Vice Chancellor of Germany called Steinmeier's dismissal a mistake.
