Only 58 Out of 510 Crew Members of the Cruiser 'Moskva' Rescued

Only 58 crew members have been rescued from the 'Moskva' cruiser, which sank in the Black Sea yesterday, out of a regular crew of 510. This was reported by the well-known Russian opposition figure and former State Duma member Ilya Ponomarev on his Facebook page.

According to updated data, the number of rescued sailors from the 'Moskva' has reached 58, out of a regular crew of 510,” he noted.

The Pentagon stated that the sinking of the 'Moskva' was a significant blow to Russia's naval forces in the Black Sea. “This is a significant blow to the Black Sea Fleet; it was an important component of their efforts to establish certain dominance in the Black Sea. It will affect their capabilities,” Pentagon spokesman John Kirby told CNN.

Recall that the 'Moskva' missile cruiser sank during a storm while being towed to its destination due to damages it sustained from a fire caused by ammunition detonating. This information was shared on Thursday by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

“The 'Moskva' lost stability due to damage from a fire caused by ammunition detonating while being towed to its designated port. The ship sank in stormy sea conditions,” the military department reported.
