Israel Knesset Approves Death Penalty Bill for Terrorists
The Israeli Knesset (parliament) has approved a bill proposing the death penalty for terrorists in its first reading. This information was reported by the Kan public television and radio company.
A total of 39 out of 120 legislators voted in favor of the bill, while 16 opposed it. The proposal was introduced by Limor Son Har-Melech, a member of the ‘Jewish Power’ party, which is part of the governing coalition.
According to data from The Jerusalem Post, the bill stipulates the application of the death penalty to any individual who “deliberately or through indifference causes the death of an Israeli citizen, when the act is performed for racist motives or out of hatred towards a specific group of the population.” The Knesset had initially approved this bill in a preliminary reading on March 1, 2023.
