A Rebellion is Brewing Against Zhanna Andreasian: Who Could Replace Her
The Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of Armenia, Zhanna Andreasian, is facing a brewing rebellion. The discontent arises within the government, particularly among members of the ‘Civil Contract’ faction in the National Assembly, regarding the fact that former rector of the Pedagogical University, Srbuhi Gevorgyan, was held accountable for involvement in corrupt schemes, while Andreasian has managed to evade any legal consequences, despite being fully aware of all events occurring at the university.
This information comes from the ‘Zhoghovurd’ newspaper. According to sources cited by the paper, this issue has been discussed at various levels of the government for quite some time, and a position is forming that Andreasian's conduct should be examined both in the Civil Contract party’s board and during the party's initiating sessions.
During these discussions, the minister is expected to be questioned about the approval of 50 million drams as the chairperson of the university’s board of trustees, which was allegedly allocated based on the rector's proposal but instead given as a loan to an unknown company, and from that loan, the university received no financial support whatsoever.
Within the close circle of the Civil Contract faction, it has been discussed that Zhanna Andreasian should resign and step down, with speculation that the ministerial position should be appointed to Sisak Gabrielyan, a member of the National Assembly and the chair of the Standing Committee on Education, Science, Culture, and Sport.
