The 'Armenia' Alliance Issues a Statement

Today, in the atmosphere of thousands of victims, wounded sovereignty, serious security challenges, captives, and unresolved national pain, discussing a 'colorful celebration' is not appropriate. This was stated in a press release by the 'Armenia' Alliance.

'At the last government meeting, it was announced about the 'massive and colorful celebration' planned for September 21 in the Republic Square. Undoubtedly, September 21 is one of the most valuable days in our national and state calendar. Exactly thirty years ago, on September 21, 1991, the people of Armenia voted for the establishment of an independent state. The passing years were times of state-building and strengthening our victories, and our collective effort was aimed at valuing the path we have traveled, correcting our shortcomings, and building a dignified future through national will.

Unfortunately, the last three years, and especially the 44-day war, not only disrupted the course of our statehood but also led our society to irreparable human and national-political losses, leaving the country facing an uncertain future.

Today, in the atmosphere of thousands of victims, wounded sovereignty, serious security challenges, captives, and unresolved national pain, discussing a 'colorful celebration' is not appropriate. It is a disrespect to the memory of our victims and justly provoked the outrage of the parents and family members of our heroic boys, as well as our society.

We do not abandon the thought of valuing our independence, but its best manifestation should have been the consolidation of our statehood, the cessation of the power's initiated systematic dismantling and degradation campaign against state and national institutions, the establishment of an atmosphere of solidarity within the country, and the real confrontation of threats.

We are convinced that on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Independence, it would have been appropriate to celebrate the day with modesty that corresponds to the moral and psychological atmosphere created in the country by forming a state commission.' The 'Armenia' Alliance also declares that it will serve all its political capabilities to strengthen our statehood and to serve national interests,' the statement said.
