Paris Court to Consider Sarkozy's Early Release

On Monday, November 10, the Paris court will deliberate on the early release of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, just 20 days after he began serving his sentence.

Sarkozy was sentenced to five years in prison for being found guilty of a criminal conspiracy to finance his 2007 presidential campaign. He is the first former president of modern France to be sentenced to actual imprisonment.

Previously, Sarkozy had been convicted on corruption charges but was required to wear an electronic device instead of serving time in prison.

His lawyers have appealed the verdict and filed a request for early release. The appeal process may begin in the spring.

The court will consider Sarkozy's early release on Monday, making its decision on the same day.
