Istanbul Chief Prosecutor Issues Arrest Warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu
The Istanbul Chief Prosecutor has issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on charges of "genocide." In addition to Netanyahu, arrest warrants have also been issued for 36 other officials from the Israeli government as well as various political and military figures, according to a statement from Turkish prosecutors on social media.
Among those named are Defense Minister Israel Katz, National Security Minister and leader of the right-wing "Otzma Yehudit" (Jewish Power) party Itamar Ben-Gvir, and the Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, as reported by the Turkish Anadolu Agency.
According to the announcement, thousands of people, including women and children, have been killed due to systematic genocide and crimes against humanity committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip, with many others injured and residential neighborhoods rendered uninhabitable.
The statement also touches upon Israel's actions against the "Freedom Flotilla," whose ships were intercepted by Tel Aviv in October while en route to the Gaza Strip, where they intended to deliver humanitarian aid. Among the activists aboard one of the flotilla's ships was Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg.
