EU to Impose New Sanctions Package Against Russia; Belarus to be Affected as Well
The European Commissioner for Financial Services, Mairead McGuinness, announced during her visit to Lithuania that the EU has begun working on a new sanctions package—its twentieth—against Russia, which will also include Belarus.
“At the same time, we will continue to fight against circumvention measures. You know, even when sanctions are established, there are third countries that facilitate their circumvention. This is part of our ongoing efforts to find ways, cooperate with third countries to prevent that, and monitor this process, as many of those supporting violations will be included in future sanctions packages,” the Commissioner stated.
Additionally, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, had previously announced the approval of the nineteenth sanctions package against Russia, which includes restrictions on Russian banks, cryptocurrency exchanges, and several companies from India and China.
