Tehran May Need to Evacuate, Says Masoud Pezeshkian
The water crisis in Iran's capital is deepening due to a lack of rainfall, and the city may need to be evacuated if it does not rain during the second half of November, stated Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Earlier, Behzad Parsa, the director of the Tehran provincial water company, warned on November 2 that the water reserves of the Amir Kabir reservoir, one of the five main reservoirs supplying drinking water to Iran's capital, would last less than two weeks.
“If it does not rain in Azar month (starting on November 22), we will have to impose restrictions (on water consumption) in Tehran, and it is uncertain whether these restrictions will have a positive effect. If it doesn't rain again, we will be left without water altogether, and we will have to evacuate Tehran,” quoted the Iranian President by Jamaran agency.
