MP Artur Sargsyan to Remain in Custody: Court Rejects Motion

The court has rejected the motion to change the detention of MP Artur Sargsyan from the "Armenia" faction. This was stated by his lawyer Aram Vardevanyan in a conversation with journalists.

It should be noted that today the court hearing is ongoing regarding the leader of the "Sacred Struggle" movement, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, and 17 supporters of the movement. The session is being held behind closed doors.

"I had submitted a motion on October 30. It relates to the removal of the detention imposed on Artur Sargsyan, along with the application of alternative measures such as house arrest, bail, and a combined prohibition on leaving the country. The necessity for this is due to the condition of Artur Sargsyan's father, former mayor of Sisian Lavrent Sargsyan, who is 85 years old and is currently in a medical center. During this period, he has had serious health problems, and all details have been provided to the court. We are experiencing such a humanitarian crisis that the prosecutors opposed this motion," Vardevanyan noted.

According to him, problems arose when he saw what was happening to his son. Artur Sargsyan has no health issues.

It is worth recalling that participants and leaders of the "Sacred Struggle" movement are accused of carrying out actions aimed at terrorism and seizing power in Armenia. Artur Sargsyan has been in custody since July 9.
