Zohra Mamdani Elected as First Muslim Mayor of New York City

In the local elections held on Tuesday in the United States, 34-year-old Democrat Zohra Mamdani has become the mayor of New York City.

According to preliminary results, Mamdani received nearly half of the votes from New Yorkers. The political figure, who identifies as a democratic socialist, campaigned on the idea of transforming New York into a city based on social equality. Her plans include freezing rents, launching free bus routes, opening supermarkets with city subsidies, and a range of other measures aimed at reducing living costs by raising taxes on the wealthiest segments of the population.
