EU Plans Visa Restrictions Against Georgia
The European Commission may approve a new system of visa restrictions in November aimed at pressuring the Georgian authorities to return to the path of EU integration. This was stated by EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos.
According to her, the proposed mechanism would allow for the temporary suspension of visa privileges for countries that deviate from European values or fail to comply with agreements with the EU. Such a move could be a response to Georgia's recent political decisions, which are viewed in Brussels as contrary to the European direction.
The European Commission emphasizes that the EU continues to support Georgia's European aspirations but expects more concrete steps toward democratic institutions and the rule of law. The issue of visa policy is expected to be discussed in the coming weeks.
