Part of the Medieval Conti Tower Collapses in Rome, Injuries Reported

A section of the medieval Conti Tower near the Colosseum has collapsed, injuring several workers.

In the center of Rome, near the Colosseum, part of the medieval Conti Tower has collapsed. Four individuals were rescued from the rubble. Among them, a 64-year-old worker involved in restoration efforts suffered severe head injuries and has been hospitalized. The other three workers were brought out of the building by firefighters and did not sustain serious injuries.

The Conti Tower was built in 1203 under the orders of Pope Innocent III and the Counts of Senni. It was designed as a residential and defensive structure, constructed on the site of the Temple of Peace in Rome.
