Five New Reservoirs to Be Built in Armenia: Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure
The Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia, Davit Khudatyan, announced during the preliminary discussions of the 2026 state budget that the public investment committee has given a positive conclusion for the projects of five reservoirs. According to him, construction projects for the reservoirs in Kasakh, Yeghipatrush, Lichq, Artik, and Astghadzor are ready, and their implementation will begin in 2026.
The minister noted that the same year, technical and economic assessments will be conducted for 12 reservoirs, for which 1 billion drams have been allocated. Additionally, 264.3 million drams are earmarked in the 2026 budget for the modernization of existing reservoirs.
It is worth mentioning that during a joint session of the National Assembly's standing committees in 2024, while discussing the draft budget for 2025, then Minister Gnel Sanosyan stated that construction of five small reservoirs is planned to start in 2025, and projects for 28 very small reservoirs are also ready.
Moreover, small reservoirs help regulate water supply from large reservoirs to the canals.
