There Are No Political Prisoners in Armenia and There Never Will Be: Arsen Torosyan
There are no political prisoners in Armenia and there never will be, but there is the supremacy and primacy of the law in Armenia. This was stated by Arsen Torosyan, a member of the 'Civil Contract' faction and Minister of Health, during a parliamentary briefing in response to a question about whether there are prisoners in Armenia.
"One of the most important components of democratic countries is the supremacy of law, where everyone must be equal before the law, regardless of their political views. If we are talking about the imprisonment, detention, or sentencing of opposition figures accused of crimes, there are numerous cases concerning current officials who have been imprisoned, detained, sentenced, and are now released. Selective justice has long been put to an end in Armenia," he said.
When asked whether a person can be detained for making a statement in Armenia, Torosyan responded that no one is detained in Armenia for making any statement; there are criminal articles.
