Reports of the US Proposal to Establish a Military Base in Georgia are False: Tbilisi Denies
The Ministry of Defense of Georgia has denied information disseminated by an opposition TV channel regarding a US proposal to initiate discussions on establishing an American military base in Tbilisi. This was reported by the Interfax agency.
“The information in question is being spread by a politically biased individual, which is then used by certain media outlets and politically subjective persons to conduct a misinformation campaign,” stated the Georgian Ministry of Defense in its announcement on September 13.
The day before, the opposition TV channel ‘Mindavan Archi’ reported that US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin had proposed negotiations on establishing a military base in Georgia to the ruling 'Georgian Dream' party, during his visit to Georgia a few months before Russia's military actions in Ukraine. According to the TV channel, Austin received a rejection from the Georgian authorities, but Georgian officials concealed this fact.
