Ukraine to Receive Loan Secured by Russian Assets, EU

The European Union is confident that Ukraine will receive a loan backed by Russia's frozen assets. According to Politico, an EU official stated, “The question is not whether the loan will be provided, but rather when it will be executed.”

Earlier, EU member states failed to reach a common position during a summit regarding the European Commission's proposal related to the use of Russian assets to support Kyiv. The final document from the summit notes that EU countries have decided to return to discussions on financial support options for Ukraine at the next meeting.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis has also expressed hope for progress on this issue during the upcoming EU Council meeting scheduled for December 18.
