This Winter Could Be Pivotal for Ukraine, Says German Foreign Minister
The German Foreign Minister, Johan Wadephul, has stated that this winter could determine the future of Ukraine amid the ongoing military conflict. According to reports from the br.de portal, Wadephul called on NATO allies to take initiatives for "certain and decisive support."
"This winter is crucial. Ukraine must maintain its defensive capabilities," emphasized the German foreign minister. He noted that last week, the "coalition of volunteers" discussed how Europe can assist Ukraine in "getting through this winter," taking into account energy and military challenges.
Wadephul added that Ukraine can always rely on Germany's support, as Berlin bears "special responsibility" in this regard.
Earlier, the British magazine The Economist reported that Russia has begun implementing a new strategy aimed at weakening Ukraine's electricity system in preparation for winter. Russian forces have been striking Ukrainian infrastructure since October 2022, following the explosion of the Crimean Bridge. Since then, air alerts have been periodically announced in various regions of Ukraine, while Russia's Ministry of Defense claims that the strikes target energy, defense, and communications facilities.
It is noteworthy that Western nations have recently announced the intensification of offensive operations by Russian forces in the direction of Donbas.
