Does the Church believe that power in Armenia should belong to the people? - Ioannissian

The coordinator of the public organization 'Aware Citizens Union', Daniel Ioannissian, made a post on his Facebook page posing the question of whether the Armenian Apostolic Church is for or against democracy.

“I am someone distant from theology, but recently there have been many high-ranking clergymen speaking against democracy and human rights. One says democracy is unnecessary, another calls for a military coup, a third considers human rights to be a cover for bad things, a fourth justifies coercing voters, and a fifth seeks a leader like Kadyrov, and so on. Even more, not a single notable cleric has publicly stated that they disagree with any of this. Moreover, the Mother See in its communication with the media does not deny any of these statements. Therefore, a question must be asked to the Mother See: does the Church believe that power in Armenia should belong to the people or would it prefer that it be in the hands of a narrow group?” wrote Ioannissian.
