Pashinyan on the Main Causes of Poverty

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed the issue of poverty levels in the country during a session of the National Assembly, clarifying why poverty has not significantly decreased despite an increase in economic activity.

“There is a high circulation of money, but poverty is not decreasing. I have thought a lot about this and have come to the conclusion that the reason is our ruined schools. There simply is no other reason,” Pashinyan stated.

According to the Prime Minister, when a significant portion of the Republic's children are deprived of quality education, it inevitably affects their future income. “Tens of thousands of citizens are coming to work in Armenia from abroad, employers are looking for workers and cannot find them. At the same time, there is a high demand in well-paid sectors, but there are no qualified specialists,” he added.

Pashinyan emphasized that the consequences of years of neglect in the educational system are now reflected in the labor market. “Those children who did not attend school or did not receive proper education have now grown up and become of working age. And without knowledge, it is impossible to create prosperity,” the Prime Minister remarked.
