Official of the Ministry of Defense Military Police Accused of Receiving Large Bribe
Based on materials received from the National Security Service of Armenia, it has been established during the preliminary investigation of the criminal case initiated by the Anti-Corruption Committee that an individual who held the position of deputy head of the military police department of the Yerevan garrison of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, with assistance from a close associate, demanded and received a bribe of 7,500 USD equivalent to 2,970,000 AMD from the father of a conscript in order to conduct an illegal action favoring the conscript, namely, to organize the process of obtaining a deferment from compulsory military service or a false medical diagnosis to exempt the conscript from military service.
This information was reported by the Anti-Corruption Committee. The preliminary investigation revealed that in execution of the criminal intent, the aforementioned military police official's close associate met with him on February 20, 2025, and handed over 3,500 USD, as part of the demanded bribe of 7,500 USD. Out of this amount, 200 USD was provided by the military police official to the aforementioned associate, as per their agreement.
The remaining bribe amount of 4,000 USD was received by the aforementioned official between February 21 and May 21, 2025. The official of the Ministry of Defense Military Police has been charged under Article 435, Part 2, Items 2 and 3 of the Criminal Code of Armenia for receiving a large bribe, while the individual who assisted him has been charged under Article 46-435, Part 2, Items 2 and 3 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. A measure of restraint in the form of detention has been applied to the official. The preliminary investigation regarding both defendants has been completed, and the materials of the case have been sent to the Anti-Corruption Court of Armenia with an accusatory conclusion.
