EU Became Russia's Largest Trade Partner
The European Union was Russia's third largest trading partner in 2024. According to Bild, the total trade volume amounted to approximately €67.5 billion.
China remained the main partner, with trade reaching $244.8 billion, followed by India. Asian partners play a significant role in sustaining the Russian economy outside Europe. China is the largest buyer of Russian goods, primarily oil, gas, and coal.
In 2024, the import volume was $130 billion, and the total trade turnover between the two countries reached around $244.8 billion. India, which ranked only 12th among Russia's trade partners before the war, has now become the second most important importer, mainly due to oil purchases.
Thus, under the pressure of sanctions, Russia is increasingly redirecting its economic ties towards the East, while Europe, remaining a significant but more reserved partner, gradually reduces its participation in Russia's trade.
