Inmates Used Physical Force Against Officers: Prison Authorities

Recently, at the 'Artik' penitentiary facility under the Ministry of Justice of Armenia, efforts to combat criminal subcultures, eliminate prohibited items, and remove furniture that does not meet established standards have led to dissatisfaction among inmates, accompanied by illegal demands. This was reported by the Prison Service.

“On October 24, during the execution of the aforementioned routine actions by the personnel, the inmates disrupted the normal functioning of the facility, exhibited disobedience, disrespectful behavior, and openly aggressive conduct, using physical force against the officers. Following explanatory and preventive measures taken by the correctional officers, the situation was brought under control. Currently, the situation at the 'Artik' penitentiary facility is stable and under full control.

At the same time, it is important to note that such displays of disobedience are illegal and give rise to grounds for criminal liability as stipulated by law,” the statement reads.
