Masis Community Leader Sentenced to 6 Years and 3 Months in Prison
David Hambardzumyan has been sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison, as announced by attorney Tigran Atanesyan.
“The Yerevan Criminal Court (Judge Zh. Chichoyan) has just delivered a verdict sentencing Masis Community leader and candidate for Prime Minister David Hambardzumyan to 6 years and 3 months of imprisonment, revoking bail and applying detention as a measure of restraint,” the lawyer reported.
According to the charges, on April 22, 2018, at a busy intersection between the villages of Hayanist and Hovatashat in the Ararat region, Hambardzumyan and a group of individuals intentionally and grossly violated public order, which was expressed in a blatant disrespect toward the public, and involved the application of violence against participants who had organized a march towards Republic Square to participate in a rally scheduled for 7 PM on the same day, using weapons and weapon-like objects that they had brought with them, as well as destroying property.
Additionally, it is worth noting that the parliamentary opposition had initiated a campaign for the impeachment of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and declared that their candidate for Prime Minister was David Hambardzumyan.
