Details from Artsakh's Minister of State Meeting with Lentsov
A meeting has just concluded with the newly appointed commander at the location of the Russian peacekeeping forces. This was reported by Artsakh's Minister of State Gurgen Nersisyan.
"The meeting was attended by the President of the Republic of Artsakh, the Minister of State, and the Ministers of Internal Affairs and Defense from our side. We reaffirmed Artsakh's position regarding the current situation. Our position is as follows: The resolution of the situation must be based on the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020, and the 6th point of that statement stipulates the following:
- Artsakh must be connected to Armenia by a 5-kilometer-wide Lachin corridor,
- The Lachin corridor must be under the control of the Russian peacekeeping forces,
- Azerbaijan must ensure the safety of the movement of citizens, vehicles, and goods in both directions through the Lachin corridor.
After listening to us, the commander of the Russian peacekeeping forces announced that he will be having meetings with the Azerbaijani side in the coming days and will be able to address the issue and provide information by the end of the week.
I appeal to the citizens and authorities of the Republic of Armenia to take all necessary steps, and utilize all political and diplomatic means to ensure the safety of the citizens of the Republic of Artsakh, to protect the right of the Artsakh people to self-determination, and to ensure the implementation of the provisions of the Trilateral Statement.
I appeal to the international community to ensure the fulfillment of Azerbaijan's obligation to unblock the corridor connecting Artsakh to Armenia, as stipulated by your own decisions. The consequences of your inaction or passivity are the daily sufferings of the residents of Artsakh.
I appeal to the global Armenian community to turn your attention towards Artsakh, to see the people who are maintaining Armenian Artsakh at the cost of their suffering.
