Israel Obligated to Meet Palestinian Needs: UN
Israel is obligated to ensure the basic needs of the Palestinian population, including the provision of aid. This statement was made by the President of the International Court of Justice, Yūji Iwasawa. The international court today issued an advisory opinion regarding Israel’s obligations concerning the presence of international organizations in Palestinian territories.
“Israel is obligated to meet the basic needs of the local population, including providing for their food necessities,” Iwasawa stated during the court session. He noted that these obligations are specified in Articles 55 and 56 of the Fourth Geneva Convention.
