During Your Rule, the Meghri Railway Has Been Destroyed for Scrap Metal: Ruben Rubinyan
Wheat is expected to arrive cheaper from Kazakhstan than it would from Ukraine. This was announced during a session of the National Assembly by Deputy Speaker Ruben Rubinyan, responding to comments from “Armenia” faction MP Gegham Manukyan, who noted that wheat would not be passing through Azerbaijan’s territory to reach Ijevan, but rather reaching Georgia and then entering Armenia.
In this context, the opposition MP expressed the view that due to diversification, it would also be possible to import wheat from Ukraine and Russia, and that it would also enter Armenia via Georgian territory.
Another member of the “Armenia” faction, Artur Khachatryan, mentioned that it is the opposition's demand to unblock all roads simultaneously: “This includes unblocking the Armenia-Armenia road through Nakhichevan, which is impossible as long as the Sadarak-Eraskh railway or crossing is not constructed, and it also includes the unblocking of the Ijevan-Ghazakh road.”
To these comments, Ruben Rubinyan responded: “The railway to Ijevan is currently not operational. It is impossible to import anything via a non-existent railway. The Meghri railway has also been destroyed. During your rule, the Meghri railway has been destroyed for scrap metal.”
In response to Khachatryan’s comment that the opposition demands the simultaneous unblocking of all roads, Rubinyan stated, “We not only support that they are opened simultaneously, but if things can be opened for us before that, let them be opened. Is that bad? Is it bad that something is being opened for us even if it’s not simultaneous?”
Referring to another comment from Artur Khachatryan about how the conqueror loves to talk about peace, Rubinyan retorted, “You say that the conqueror loves to talk about peace. Good, you quote the classics very well—just get oriented a bit. From Azerbaijan, we are hearing unconstructive and hostile statements, and you say this shows that your entire peace agenda is fake since belligerent statements are coming from Azerbaijan. When Azerbaijan issues peace-loving statements, you come and say this is because the conqueror loves peace. So, is there no way to satisfy you, or is there? You are just in the classic mode where being in favor means being against it.”
