Armenian Lavash Among 'World's 50 Best Breads'
Armenian lavash has earned its place in CNN's prestigious list of 'World's 50 Best Breads.' This ranking is part of actor Tony Shalhoub's documentary project, Breaking Bread. Tony Shalhoub is an American actor and a winner of four Emmy Awards, as well as a Tony and Golden Globe awardee. In this project, he embarks on a gastronomic journey around the world, exploring the cultural significance of bread—the most universal food—by preparing it with bakers, chefs, and local residents in various countries.
Lavash, a thin bread baked in just 30 seconds in a hot clay tandoor, occupies a central place in Armenian cuisine and culture. Traditionally, it is made by groups of women, hand-stretching the dough on special pillows filled with straw or wool, as CNN has described.
