Prosecutor General's Priorities: Return of Assets Stolen from Armenia

The Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia, Anna Vardapetyan, participated online in the 35th meeting of the Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States held in the Republic of Tajikistan.

In her speech, the Prosecutor General addressed current issues regarding the confiscation of illegally acquired assets, presenting the Armenian experience and the results achieved in this context. According to Anna Vardapetyan, in the past three years, among other measures related to the powers for the confiscation of assets of illegal origin, nine settlement agreements have been signed, resulting in the return of approximately 13.5 million USD worth of property to the state.

“Within the framework of international legal cooperation on criminal cases, we have managed to identify criminally obtained assets in a number of countries, which are currently frozen,” added the Prosecutor General of Armenia.

Among the priorities of the Prosecutor's Office is the aim to prevent crimes as well as to compensate the damage caused to the state and communities as a result, including the return of stolen properties and assets from Armenia.

The leaders of delegations presented reports on issues included in the agenda of the 35th meeting of the Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General, which included the fight against corruption, confiscation of illegally acquired assets, legal cooperation in combating cybercrime, protection of the rights of minors, and other matters.
