Japan to Have Its First Female Prime Minister

According to Kyodo News, the Japanese government, led by Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, has resigned. In early September, Ishiba announced his resignation from the presidency of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) to prevent a division within the party.

On October 4, former Economic Security Minister Sanae Takaichi was elected as the new president of the party. An extraordinary session of the lower house of parliament is scheduled for October 21, during which Takaichi will be elected as Prime Minister. Thus, she will become Japan's first female Prime Minister.
