Construction Works on the Genocide Memorial to Be Temporarily Halted
The construction works on the Genocide Memorial will be temporarily suspended. This was announced by the Armenian Union of Architects.
"It has been decided to halt the construction works temporarily to ensure proper organization of the construction site and the safety of the works, as well as to continue the restoration process only in the areas of the three pillars that have already been partially demolished, while simultaneously continuing professional discussions regarding the engineering solutions and methodologies for the complete restoration of the monument," the statement said.
A permanent monitoring of the construction works has also been established, with the participation of the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, the president of the Union, and a representative from the project's author group.
This decision was made following a tour conducted by members of the Union's council in the monument area and a meeting with the project's author group. An extraordinary extended session of the Scientific and Methodological Council of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports was convened at the request of the Union, which was attended by five members of the Union's council, including architect Anahit Tarkhanyan, daughter of Arthur Tarkhanyan, the author of the Genocide Memorial (she had previously raised concerns regarding the construction works at the memorial).
