"Weigh It Out": Papikyan Urges Contract Soldiers and Officers

The National Assembly adopted a package of bills amending the law on "Remuneration of Persons Holding State Positions and Engaged in Public Service" and changes to the law on "Military Service and the Status of Servicemen." Sixty-five deputies voted in favor of the amendments to the law on remuneration, while 26 abstained and none voted against. The bill on changes to the law on military service was adopted unanimously.

Armenia’s Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan stated that no one underestimates the previous achievements but noted that it is incomprehensible why comparisons to the past are necessary when discussing positive developments.

“This is about improving the existing system; yes, I believe that the current system does not meet the challenges our country faces, and we are setting a higher standard. Contract soldiers must have higher preparedness and greater capabilities, and a professional army implies that our military personnel should have higher standards and better social security,” the minister emphasized.

Papikyan called on reserve contract soldiers and officers to weigh the opportunity to continue serving their country. “We are eagerly waiting,” he stressed.
