Former Regent of the Supreme Patriarch Appeals to Senior Church Officials and Relevant Bodies
The former regent of the Supreme Patriarch, Father Aghan Yerjanjakyan, has issued a statement regarding a recorded conversation that has been circulating online, involving himself and Bishop Nathan.
“In recent days, a phone recording emerged in the media, sparking intense discussions among broad segments of society. I deeply regret that my phone conversation with His Grace Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisyan, which contains personal and family matters, has become material for circulation. Without discussing the authenticity of the recording, the Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin released a statement, which, however, was not conclusive according to the outcomes, and media as well as thousands of believers continue to direct questions to me, which I have compiled to create the following picture:
- Has the strictly moral, value-oriented, and institutional subject matter presented to the head of the Disciplinary Committee of the Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin received any attention within the same Committee or not?
- If it has not, why?
- If it has, is there any record of the discussions and decisions or not?
- And if there is, why was the Information System not referenced in those discussions and decisions days ago?
Now, my request to the senior fathers of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church and related bodies is to respond to the concerns of the public and believers, instead of leaving the entirety of the reactions on my shoulders, sparing us from further discussions and misinterpretations. God protect and assist our Mother Homeland, our Holy Church, and our dear people,” wrote the former regent.
It is worth noting that pro-government media circulated a recording made in 2023, in which former regent of the Supreme Patriarch accuses Him of allegedly coercing his family members to participate in some rally.
