New Law in Russia: 12-Year School Program to be Introduced

The duration of school education is set to be extended from the current 11 years to 12 years, with schooling beginning at the age of six. This was announced in an interview with TASS by Vladislav Grib, Deputy Secretary of the Public Chamber of Russia.

“There is a necessity to implement a 12-year education system in schools, similar to almost all developed countries. Children should start school at the age of six,” he stated.

According to him, this approach to education is prompted by the realities of the times. He noted that it has become necessary as the school curriculum is becoming more complex, and children are required to learn more and more information.

It was previously reported that the Russian Ministry of Education and Science is discussing the possibility of integrating artificial intelligence (AI) technologies into the higher education system and the scientific sector. Additionally, it has been announced that unified standards for textbooks will be developed for Russian schools.
