Houthis Arrest UN Employees
The Houthi rebels in Yemen have arrested another 20 United Nations (UN) employees. This was reported to the Associated Press (AP) by the spokesperson for the UN's Resident Coordinator in Yemen, Jean Alam. He clarified that the employees were detained at a UN facility located in the southwestern part of the Yemeni capital, Sana'a.
Alam added that the day before, the Houthis had attacked another UN facility in a different area of Sana'a. According to the spokesperson, among those newly arrested are five Yemenis and 15 international employees. Alam also noted that the rebels released 11 UN workers on the same day after questioning. The fate of the remaining detainees has not been disclosed.
The United Nations is in contact with the Houthis and other parties to resolve this serious situation as quickly as possible, to stop all arrests of employees, and to restore complete control over its facilities in Sana'a, Jean Alam told AP.
