New Details on the Case of the Gyumri Mayor's Son
The son of Gyumri's mayor Vardan Ghukasian, Spartak Ghukasian, has been placed under house arrest as a measure of restraint. This has been reported by the Investigative Committee of Armenia, providing details of the criminal proceedings.
The preliminary investigation of the criminal case has been completed. According to the Investigative Committee, Spartak Ghukasian approached the driver of a freight transport vehicle to take possession of property belonging to the Gyumri community, demanding that the goods loaded onto the truck be transported to a recreation area owned by him and his family, thereby claiming the property as his own.
“The truck driver, under the influence of fear and to avoid negative consequences, complied with the demand and transported the property to the recreation area using the community's freight vehicle, unloaded it and left. As a result, Ghukasian claimed the property as his own, causing significant material damages to the Gyumri community,” the statement reads.
Criminal prosecution has been initiated against Ghukasian under the fourth point of the first part of Article 258 of the RA Criminal Code (extortion carried out by other means of coercion). The criminal case has been sent to the supervising prosecutor with a motion to confirm it and send it to the court for substantive examination.
