Fire Alert at School in Yerevan: Students Evacuated with Teachers

Auroranews received a fire alert and video footage from listeners indicating that students were evacuated from a school in Yerevan and are currently in the school yard with their teachers.

Auroranews contacted the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which confirmed that a report was received regarding a fire at the 131st primary school named after Peyo Yavorov, located at 22 Arzumanyan Street. The fire has been extinguished by local forces, and both students and teachers have been evacuated.

Additionally, “Factinfo” reports that the source of the fire was initially identified on the fourth floor and was caused by electrical wiring. The school's principal, Naira Zakaryan, stated that the students were evacuated promptly without any injuries.

“The whole incident lasted about 5 minutes; most likely there was a short circuit in the automatic switchboard where the fire started. The teacher from the adjacent classroom quickly tried to extinguish the flame with a fire extinguisher,” remarked Zakaryan, adding that they quickly called 911. In parallel, children were rapidly evacuated, windows were opened, and the building was also quickly de-energized. The entire process took merely five to six minutes.

“I must say that the Ministry of Emergency Situations arrived very promptly, but we had already extinguished the focal point before they came. Fortunately, we have no injured children,” Zakaryan said.
