Armenia Will Not Extradite Georgian Citizen to Russia
A Georgian citizen, Giorgi Kinoiani, who was detained in Armenia, has been released. Armenia has rejected Russia's extradition request, citing concerns that it could jeopardize his safety. The news was reported by Georgian civil activist Giorgi Tumasian.
Kinoiani was arrested on September 3 at the Armenia-Georgia border. An Armenian court had imposed a 40-day detention period regarding the extradition issue. The basis for his detention was a ruling from the self-proclaimed Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic. Russia had issued an international warrant for him, accusing him of fighting against Russian forces in Ukraine.
Tumasian also expressed hope that a similar favorable decision would be made regarding another Georgian citizen, Vano Sabashvili, who is also being held in Armenia.
