Sedrak Kocharyan Files Lawsuit Against Armenia

Sedrak Kocharyan, son of Armenia's second president Robert Kocharyan, has filed a lawsuit against the Republic of Armenia through the General Prosecutor's Office at the General Jurisdiction Court of Yerevan. Sedrak Kocharyan is seeking recognition of the violation of his presumption of innocence and compensation for non-material damage in the amount of 2 million drams.

In an interview with Hetq, Sedrak Kocharyan's lawyer, Haik Alumyann, stated that they have filed a relatively uncommon lawsuit, as there are very few cases in practice regarding the violation of the presumption of innocence.

It is noteworthy that Sedrak Kocharyan has been charged with facilitating the business activities of Serzh Sargsyan, who is connected to him, in violation of the law, while being a co-founder of LLC Bimbo, by providing funds and removing obstacles, and receiving a particularly large bribe.

According to the accusation, after this, with the aim of concealing the criminal origin of the property acquired through the bribe, Sedrak Kocharyan allegedly legitimized it through a series of bank transfers and by directing the income towards acquiring property.

Haik Alumyann indicated that the prosecutor's interview, which attributed a definite act to Sedrak Kocharyan, is a classic example of the violation of the presumption of innocence. The lawyer hopes that the courts will take this circumstance into account and deliver a relevant decision.

He clarified why the Prosecutor's Office is mentioned in the lawsuit: although the suit is against the Republic of Armenia, it is the Prosecutor's Office that has violated the presumption of innocence.

It should be noted that the lawsuit was submitted to the court on October 3, 2025, and has been assigned to Judge Yerem Yesoyan. A decision regarding the acceptance of the lawsuit for processing has yet to be made.
