Russia Behind Drones Observed in German Skies, Says Merz

Drones detected in German skies were unarmed and intended for reconnaissance, stated German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in an interview with ARD. Merz believes that Russia is behind the drones observed in Germany this past weekend.

“First of all, I can assure the public that we have not had any incidents or operations related to armed drones,” Merz said. “These are attempts at espionage, and they are also attempts to frighten the population. We know that we need to do something about this, and we will. However, we will do this carefully and with foresight, but also very consistently.”

The Chancellor noted that the origin of the drones spotted near Munich Airport in recent days remains unknown. Nevertheless, he emphasized that regardless of who is behind these flights, they pose a “serious threat” to Germany's security.
