Negotiations Between Israel and Hamas Do Not Mean the End of War: Rubio
Negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement do not indicate an end to the war, and establishing a governing body for the Gaza Strip will take some time, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated in an interview with NBC News.
“Everyone, including Israel, agrees that at some point in this process, with the help, support, and leadership of an international consortium like the Peace Council, Gaza will be governed by a Palestinian technocratic group that is not affiliated with Hamas and is not terrorist,” Rubio told the network.
He also emphasized, “It is impossible to create a governing structure in Gaza in three days that is not connected to Hamas.”
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump had set a deadline until Sunday for the Hamas movement to accept his terms for a peace deal regarding a ceasefire in Gaza. “Free all hostages, including returning the bodies of the deceased. The agreement with Hamas must be reached on Sunday at 6:00 PM Washington time. All countries have already joined the agreement. If this last offer is not accepted, unimaginable hell will be unleashed against Hamas,” Trump wrote on October 3 on his Truth Social platform.
On the same day, Hamas expressed its willingness to discuss Trump’s plan for Gaza.
