Orange Alert Declared in China

The National Meteorological Center of China has issued a statement regarding an "orange" level alert. This is the second of four warning levels and is associated with Typhoon Matmo.

Matmo is the 21st typhoon of the year, currently gaining strength and moving towards the southern coast of the country. According to the National Meteorological Center, the typhoon, observed at 5 a.m. at 18 degrees north latitude and 117.7 degrees east longitude, is moving northwest at a speed of 25-30 km/h.
