Armenian Community in Georgia Calls Claims of Artsakh Joining Azerbaijan Treasonous

Artsakh will remain standing because the spirit of its people is indomitable, and the consciousness and faith of the Armenian people is unwavering. This statement was released by the Armenian community in Georgia.

“Our last gathering near the Armenian Embassy in Tbilisi was in 2020, during the 44-day war in Artsakh, when hundreds of representatives of the Tbilisi Armenian community stood by Artsakh, organizing various supportive events. We all believed in victory until the end, but it turned out we were misled, being told that 'we will win,' and on November 9, 2020, a disgraceful capitulation agreement was signed behind the backs of the Armenian people, under which most of the territory of the Republic of Artsakh was surrendered to Azerbaijan.

A campaign began against national and spiritual institutions, including the Armenian Apostolic Church and the army, as well as against Artsakh and its people, with active efforts carried out worldwide to turn Armenians against each other. People were persuaded that Artsakh was a burden, and by getting rid of it, we would achieve peace. After all this, a series of disgraceful statements began, preparing the Armenian people for the complete surrender of Artsakh. At the same time, threats from Azerbaijan and Turkey were directed at Armenia and the Armenian community, both verbally and in practice.

But we all know too well how inhumanely they have treated captured soldiers and civilians, how they publicly mocked, tortured, and killed them, documenting and disseminating these acts among their people to incite them. We also want to point out the fact of attacks on the sovereign territories of Armenia and that the Syunik region is already at risk. Taking advantage of the compromising position of the RA authorities, the audacious enemy no longer conceals its appetite and desire to implement the pan-Turkic idea in this region. Thus, the RA authorities are preparing to hand over the throat of 120,000 citizens of Armenia to the enemy.

Since December 12, 2022, Azerbaijan has blockaded the only road connecting the Republic of Artsakh to the world. Despite the various pretexts put forth by Azerbaijan, its strategic goal is singular: to force the population of the Republic of Artsakh to leave their historical homeland. Azerbaijan is guided by a plan to gradually turn Artsakh into a Nagorno-Karabakh without Armenians—no Armenians, no problems. At the same time, Azerbaijan is clearly not satisfied with the mere depopulation of Artsakh.

Recent statements about Artsakh becoming part of Azerbaijan are treasonous; this cannot be acceptable to any conscious Armenian because without Artsakh there will be no Armenia either. We do not want Artsakh to become Nakhchivan, a new Mush, a new Sasun, or a distant ideal; we must make issues related to our national interests part of our daily struggle and strive to achieve our national ideal.

To this day, our organization, with all its might, supports and will continue to support Artsakh, and rightly so, Shushi is unfortunate and colorless today, yet we can confidently say that we are convinced it will blossom once again and return to its rightful and historical owner. Artsakh will stand, for the spirit of its people is indomitable, and the consciousness and faith of the Armenian people is unshakeable,” the statement concludes.
